CHARACTER
NAME: Nihongou
CANON: Touken Ranbu
CANON POINT: Most recent game event
AGE: looks to be in mid-thirties-to-forties, actually around 600s.
BACKGROUND: here

PERSONALITY: Nihongou is tall, dark, and handsome. He's not so mysterious, however. His personality is fairly straightforward.

The first and primary thing one notices about Nihongou is that he's a drinker. Sake rules his thoughts most of the time, and you will very seldom find him without some form of alcohol in his possession. He's responsible (enough) about it though, warning others that they should drink if they want to and not if someone tells them to, and that they shouldn't get too carried away with it. That said, he's always drinking himself and it may be difficult to tell if he's drunk or sober. His personality doesn't change much with or without alcohol, it's sort of as if the alcohol is just part of him honestly.

Nihongou is laid back. He speaks lazily and with a bit of a drawl, and seems to always take it easy, even when he's supposed to be doing work -- he'll do the work, he just won't be too happy about it. You can't really blame him, since he's considered a treasure to be pampered and put on display rather than put to hard work. That isn't to say he's weak or anything, however. Nihongou is actually very strong, and said to be the best spear in Japan. He just doesn't have a lot of reasons to get riled up about things nor lose his temper. Life is pretty easy for him and he takes advantage of it. He also goes with the flow, dealing with things as they come rather than worrying about them before they happen. He's easygoing in most of his relationships too. Even with his master, he treats them like an old drinking buddy, speaking familiarly instead of too stiffly. He can get sharp with swords that he shared a former master with, but it's only because he has certain expectations of them.

Despite these things, Nihongou is proud. He won't hesitate to mention that he's one of the great treasures of Japan, or to offer to show off his greatness. He also feels embarrassed that one of his masters lost him in bet. Even though that happened eons ago, it still bothers Nihongou to be thought of as something so easily lost and given away. He also doesn't like to be looked down on, as shown in his relationship with Heshikiri Hasebe. For the most part he gets along with the other blades (often asking them to join him for a drink), but it's possible to rub him the wrong way and he can get annoyed. Looking down on him is the surest way to get that to happen. Although he's one of the younger swords in the citadel, his human appearance makes him an "uncle" type, and he kind of looks after the little swords like an uncle would.

He can be a bit of a jokester, which kind of ties in to his laid back attitude. He'll say something and then if it seems like he'll be scolded for it, quickly say he was just kidding. He likes to laugh and smile, despite his gruff demeanour. If you think about it, he's kind of like your friendly old uncle, who will gladly tell drunken stories and jokes to anyone who will listen. He does have his serious moments however. There are certain things he won't joke about and certain topics that will sober him right up. What it comes down to is he will never take something serious too lightly. He knows how to read a situation, when to be funny and when to respect the situation. Even with how much he drinks, his judgment is very sound. This is probably from being on display in some pretty important places during his existence, you learn a few things when people talk openly in your presence.

Basically, Nihongou is an old spear who has seen a lot of things and been passed through a lot of hands. He doesn't stress about life, but he doesn't take it for granted either. He's easy to get to know and even easier to snag as an ally, as long as you know how to treat him right and don't mind a bit of drinking. Oh, and never try to pawn him off in a poker game, either.
POWERS/ABILITIES: As a tsukumogami, Nihongou is the spirit of a spear and thus more durable and stronger than a human being. Anything that happens to his weapon form will reflect on his body and vice versa. He is good at using ... himself? in battle and it can be assumed he would do well with other blades too, especially spears.
INVENTORY: His sake jug, and his weapon self.

MOONBLESSING: Sanguis
